I have heard of case similar to yours.

They had it fix by e-mailing Anet for the switch of preorder key from the unwanted account to wanted account.

You could always get a new pre-order box? It's just 2 pounds/dollars/whatever.

Interesting, but here's another problem I encountered. I had set up a special account for my sister to use during the preview weekend, and she also added the key for the 10 hour trial of Prophecies from the Pre-order to the account during the weekend. It turns out that the Factions weekend event counted against here Prophecies trial time, so she was only able to use less than an hour to try out Chapter One. However, if she had added the key after the event, she would have gotten the whole 10 hours - is that a big jip or what?

follow the instructions and add the Factions key to the chapter 1 account you have instead of the preorder account.

You didn't buy the actual game yet, just the preorder. (The preorder and the actual game are two different things.) When April 28 comes around, get the whole Guild Wars: Factions game from wherever you preordered from and apply that key to your current account.

I can see why it worked that way, but they should have made that clear - sounds like something that wasn't anticipated. I'd get in touch with support as I think it's something they should sort out.

As Vermilion Okeanos said, someone else posted about the OP's problem and they contacted support with the details, and they cancelled the key they had added and sent them a new one.

My sister did contact them, and was basically told that it was the same game, and the time ran concurrently with the event, so she's out of luck.

so what exactly is the point of preorder then? I just got it the other day and thought it would be applied to my current gw account for early access, then add the factions account to that once I have it. is this not how it's done?

From reading your OP, it looks like you do have two accounts. If you log in with two different e-mail addresses, then yes you do have two accounts - your original account, and the one created when you used the Pre-Order key for the new account.

For questions regarding the Pre-Order: It is not the full game, basically, the Pre is a down payment to the store you bought it from for the full Factions game. When you buy Factions after it is released, the money you spent on the Pre-Order is deducted from the cost you pay for the game. The CD in the Pre-Order simply downloads the GW client so you do not have to download it when you install the full game.

The Pre-order also give bonuses - you get special items usable by the Assassin and Ritualist, and you will also be able to start playing Factions on April 27th, before the game is released (and the reason why the Pre CD includes the game client).

The Pre-order is completely unnecessary for playing Factions. It is simply a bonus item you get for putting a down payment on the actual game.

The point of the preorder is that it gives you the special items for the Rit and Assassin.
Gives you 24 hour access.
You only payed 5 or 10 dollars. when Faction is out take your recipet to the store and they will credit you the amount you paid.

For example:
Full Chapter 2 Guild Wars Faction price = $50
You paid $10 to get the preorder
You pay $40 when you get the game.

To recap the pre order key is only for the special items and 24 hour access.

Once the game is actually in the stores you need to go pick up a copy and add the key to your account.

If you do not do that then you wont be able to play your characters that you created in Faction during the 24 hour period and you wont be able to access Cantha.

No Hurrraaaaay

You DO KNOW that once the 24 hour is gone (they said it will have 48 hours) so after Friday night you cannot get to Cantha unless you apply the retail key.

So you HAVE TO GO and BUY a copy of the game.

The one you have is just a pre order.

See my post above.

You need to fix this to be able to get your existing characters to Cantha, thats if you want to.

The Pre-Order should state that it does not include the full game, so yes, once Factions is released, you will need to buy the full version of the game in order to continue playing the game. However, you will have to decide which account you want to use to play Factions, you will only be able to use the full game on one of the two accounts you have. If you use it on the newer account where you used the Pre-Order, you will have two separate accounts, and characters from your older account will NOT be able to access any Factions content, and characters on your newer account will NOT be able to access any Prophecies content - you will basically have two completely unconnected games with no ability to "merge" them in the future.

If you add Factions to your current Prophecies account, then you will have a merged account where all characters can access content in both games. However, the newer account will become useless after the 24 hour head start period permitted by the pre-order, and any characters or items you create/find with that account will become inaccessible, unless you buy a second copy of the full Factions game and add it to the new account.
